It is Murky in Spring Soup
It was a bit unfortunate mix of low tide and the spring plankton bloom which resulted in a very poor visibility in Matheson Bay. Not in a sense of me not being able to see anything at all. It was more like as if I was not able to focus on anything further than about a half a meter from me. Everything looked blurry … which is not that clear from the pictures. Distant objects look simply out of focus on them. However, the real reason for that was the plankton I think. Other than that it is that great time of the year when all the algae (seaweeds) grow rapidly and they very colorful … from pale yellow through various shades of green and pink to rich brown and burgundy. It all can be found in a small area moving around the bottom with swell.
V zátoke Matheson bola veľmi špinavá voda, čo bolo spôsobené trochu nešťastnou “spoluprácou” odlivu a jarného premnoženia planktónu. Nie že by nebolo vidieť nič. Všetko však bolo akoby rozmazané, nedokázal som zaostriť oči na nič, čo bolo odo mňa ďalej než tak pol metra. Myslím si, že to má na svedomí planktón. Na fotkách ten jav nie je vidieť. Vzdialené objekty na nich vyzerajú jednoducho nezaostrené. Inak mám toto ročné obdobie rád, morská flóra rastie ako divá a je veľmi farebná … zastúpená je bledožltá, rôzne odtiene zelenej, ružovej a hnedej a aj vínová červená. To všetko rastie na malej ploche a vlní sa v príboji.

Červená riasa rastie na kotviacom lane … akoby uprostred ničoho. Pozn. Príliš som otvoril objektív, v ľavom hornom rohu sa objavil kúsok púzdra na foťák.

A usual view of a rock in shallow water. Pink coralline paint on barren areas, short algae on top where sun rays can reach, colorful sponges in darkness under overhangs where light-dependent plants cannot compete with them. Dosť typický pohľad na skalu v plytkej vode. Na holých plochách rastie tvrdá ružová riasa, ktorá vyzerá ako náter, horná časť, na ktorú svieti slnko, je pokrytá krátkymi riasami, v tieti pod prevismi žijú farebné hubky.

Colorful weeds on sandy bottom which is not their natural habitat. They need a hard surface to attach to. These specimens got here as a result of the wild weather of the previous days. Farebné trávy na pieskovom dne, kde normálne nežijú. Na rast potrebujú pevný podklad. To, že sú tu, má na svedomí búrlivé počasie.
