On Predestination, Free Will And Love
Let’s help ourselves with the Heisenberg’s uncertainty principle: We can measure either the position or the momentum of a quantum particle. The more accurately we measure one, the less accurately we can measure the other and vice versa.
The same can perhaps be applied to the predestination of God, who is not bound by time, vs. our so-called free will which we exercise as time flows. The more we detail predestination, the less room for free will we can see. The more we stress free will, the less able we are to reconcile it with predestination. Our ability to comprehend is limited to just one of them at a time.
We must not forget to introduce Love into the equation. From Christian point of view there is no free will except in and for Love. If I have freedom in our western sense, which mostly means rights and privileges, it’s not the same thing. The so called free will in Christian sense is exercised only if it acts away from the ego towards the other. There is no free will in pleasing one’s ego. From that perspective the ‘free will’ is not about choosing either good or evil, it equals the ability to choose towards the good …
