This is not a dive report, just a couple of pictures from two places I like a lot. One of them is popular for scuba diving training, I haven’t seen a diver in the the other one. I am talking about Matheson Bay and Mahurangi Harbour.
This was not a very successful photo dive … I took a 105mm macro lens with me to photograph tiny critters, but the sea was quite rough. I had to throw out most of the pictures as they were not in focus in areas where I wanted them to be. Otherwise it was quite pleasant, […]
2/8/2018 A very cool winter muck dive in a quite clear and cold water of Matheson Bay. I spent 90 minutes in the bay on the flat rocky bottom that was partially covered with coarse sand waiting for cool critters to appear. Posledný ponor v zátoke Matheson bol veľmi príjemný, voda bola studená, ale čistá. […]
5/2/2017 (613) My wife Ivana was keen to go as the ocean is getting warm (according to New Zealand standards of course). Encouraged by his last successful dive Adam was keen to join us … thanks to a much warmer wetsuit we’ve found for him. We went to Matheson Bay, it was very crowded on […]
spiderment Stock Photograph brown, clear, good day, kelp, leatherjacket, Matheson Bay, New Zealand, ocean, pacific, Parika, scaber, seaweed, southern, temperate, undersea, underwater, visibility, water, weed

Sometimes it can get very murky. Zero visibility on the beach, 1-3 metres at the island. Then there are those good days. […]
This spotty wrasse joined me in Matheson Bay when I got to the area with stacks of these brown sea weeds. Technically they are not weeds, i.e. they are no plants, but the locals call them that way. It stayed with me for a couple of minutes, hiding in the weeds, then coming out of […]
